Google Declines N. Carolina Job Incentives

The economy being what it is, Google has said “thanks, but no thanks” to part of the tax incentives offered by the state of North Carolina.

According to an Associated Press story in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the company was in line to recoup $4.8 million in state taxes if it met certain criteria, including creating jobs at a Lenoir server farm. But Google declined the 12-year Job Development Investment Grant. That was part of a $260 million state incentive package to attract Google’s latest huge data center.

It told the state that in this economy, it could not guarantee the facility could expand as quickly as originally thought.

In its initial projections, the facility was to employ 210 people. Google declined to discuss employment at the facility for the story.
