The Elite Model Look (SA) contest started out in the mid 80's as the Elite Look of the Year (SA) contest. It is the local preliminary for the Elite Model Look International contest that has been held in a number of countries around the world since it's inception in the 80's.
The name changed from Elite Look of the Year to Elite Model Look in the mid 90's and local preliminaries were held in 1997 and 1998. The contest disappeared from the scene and any South African that placed as a runner-up at the Face of Africa contest was sent to the Elite Model Look International contest to represent the country.
The contest was revived in the mid 2000's.
