MISS TOYOTA RUGBY

From 1975 until 1996, the club rugby league champions from each of the six test-playing unions competed at the Toyota Club Rugby Tournament in Durban over the Easter weekend. Together with the defending champions and an invitation team, the eight teams would do battle to decide which team was the SA Club Rugby Champion.

Each competing team was also required to be accompanied by a young lady who would represent her club in the Miss Toyota Rugby pageant. The pageant was usually held on the Saturday before Easter Monday, and the winner and runners-up would be paraded in the stadium prior to the Grand Final kick-off.

The title was very prestigious and the winner usually won a car, an overseas holiday and a considerable cash prize. A number of Miss SA runners-up and contestants are known to have competed in this pageant.
