A LONG AND WINDING ROAD

Gail Robinson, SA's entry at the 1964 Miss Universe pageant, took 20 days to get to Miami. She left Cape Town by passenger liner on the 30th of June, and arrived in Miami on the 20th of July. Her 3-week trip included a 2-week voyage to Southampton, a train-ride to London, a flight from London to New York, and a flight from New York to Miami.

Gail, a 20-year-old brunette, hailed from Johannesburg where she was a swimsuit model. She was 1,65m tall and weighed 52,5kg. Her vital statistics were 89-56-89, or 35-22-35 in imperial measurements. Her wardrobe included 3 full-length evening gowns, 15 cocktail dresses, and 2 swimsuits.
