This pageant was organised by the SA Wool Board, MGM and Photo News. The winner was crowned by Prime Minister, General Jan Smuts. A Top 10 was named before the winner and her runners-up were crowned.
Contestants had qualified for the finals during preliminary events held at MGM cinemas around South Africa. Judging took place at the Metro Theatre in Johannesburg on Sunday 07 and Monday 08 March. Among the judges at the preliminaries were the reigning Misses America and France.
