Whilst the best things in life are (allegedly) free, everything else has a price tag attached and can be bought. And with inflation and the high cost of living these days, the price of some things are just down-right ridiculous. But how much does an international beauty contest crown cost?In 1958 it cost the price of a return ticket to London. In 1974 it was the price of the ticket to London plus the fee of the journalist that exposed the orginal winner as a skanky, adulterous ho (well, by 1974 moral standards she was). But in 2009 the cost will be an astronomical R45 million.
Wow! The price people are prepared to pay to prove a point and make a statement. I'm certain that the residents of all the squatter camps in Johannesburg will be dancing in the streets with joy on 12 December that the money was well spent.
