FREE STATE BEAUTIES

To the best of my knowledge, a provincial pageant has only been held in the Free State at two stages in the history of pageantry in South Africa prior to 2010: Miss Orange Free State was held from 1970 until 1974, and Miss SA Free State was held from 1994 until 1998. Both pageants served to select the provincial finalist for Miss SA when the provincial system was in place at the national pageant.

Now it appears that there is a new provincial pageant in the province: The Miss Free State pageant. It was held in 2010 for the first time. I never bothered to report on or record the results since I figured it was yet another once-off event, but I have just been informed that it will be an annual event on the pageant calendar in the Free State.

The home of the pageant is the Bloem Spa Lodge in Bloemfontein and the pageant director is Wian Lourens. For more information on the pageant please check out their website where you will also be able to download an entry form.
