Despite the dismal, paltry, pathetic, ridiculous, meagre and generally awful support from business and the general public in the Helderberg, the Mr & Miss Surf pageant took place in the Charles Morkel Hall last night.
The Miss Surf crown went to Donique Leonard from Mossel Bay. She will be representing South Africa at the Miss Tourism International pageant in Malaysia in December. Her runners-up were Ane Reynolds from Gordon's Bay and Charlsey van der Heyde from Somerset West. Ane will go to the Queen of the World pageant in Germany if it is held this year.
Mr Surf is Pierre Redman from Stellenbosch. His runners-up were Anton Duvenhage and Craig le Roux, both from Stellenbosch. Pierre will be SA's representative at Mr Tourism International in Panama in December.
The Miss Teen Surf pageant was moved from the 11:00 schedule since it clashed with school sporting events. The winner is Zena Logenstein from Kraaifontein. Her runners-up were Simone Meyer from Strand and Julia Harvard from Somerset West.
Together with the remaining Miss Teen Surf contestant, Sasha-Lee Reynolds, the winners have been fast-tracked to the Top 12 in the Miss Teen International SA pageant to be held in August and will be the ONLY finalists from the Western Cape in the line-up. They will compete with 8 finalists from around South Africa to vie for the right to compete at Miss Teen International in China.
A big thank you to the judges Gavin Miller, Charlene Sauerman, Lizette Nieuwenhoudt and Marcelino Matthews for taking the time to help choose the winners. I am also eternally grateful to Daneall and Ivo from Hello Darling Hair Studio in Somerset West for doing hair and make-up. Love you all madly.
The next Mr & Miss Surf pageant will be held in the first week of January 2012.
