The Hunk of the Year contest was held annually from 1988 until 1996 at the Tyger Valley Shopping Centre in Cape Town. Many of the winners, runners-up and contestants also competed in the Mr SA and Manhunt SA contests.
In 1992 the contest went "national" with the winner and runners-up progressing to the national final.
